Honda Siel has said that it will raise the cost of its most popular sedan in India, the City, by an additional Rs. 10,000. Potential buyers will have to pay the revised amount from April 1, 2012. This hike comes on the top of the increase in car prices announced by the Japanese car maker last week.

Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI), commented, "Last week, we had passed on the impact of excise duty hike partially to our City customers as it was a big amount. However, as we do not have any other option, we are passing on the rest. With the full implementation of the duty hike, the City prices will further go up by Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 depending on variants from April 1.”

The company had said last week that the prices of its Brio, City, Jazz, Civic and Accord models by Rs. 5,000 to 10,500 due to the 2 per cent increase in cess levied by the Indian government. After the hike, the City sedan was placed within the price bracket of Rs. 7.10 and 10.33 lacs, depending on the variant. Therefore, the price range of the car from April 1, 2012 will be Rs. 7.20 to Rs. 10.43 lacs.

Honda India had to increase the costs of all models in its portfolio last week, except the CR-V, which is imported to the country as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). The modification in the prices of the CR-V Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is yet to be announced.
