Honda India has finally stepped into the highly lucrative compact SUV segment with the launch of the BR-V. This all-new model has been introduced with ex-showroom prices ranging between Rs 8.75 lakh lakh and Rs 12.90 lakh, depending on the variant (ex-showroom Delhi).
Now although Honda India has based the BR-V around the Mobilio MPV, the former is plenty different and features a longer wheelbase, wider front and rear track. It also has a higher ground clearance compared to the Mobilio. In terms of looks, the BR-V looks fairly rugged despite its low-slung stance, thanks to those chunky roof rails, plastic cladding all around and the striking alloy wheels.
As for the features, there are four variants on offer. The entry-level E gets projector headlights, roof rails, tilt steering, power windows and even dual airbags and ABS (for diesel variant) as standard. The top-spec VX variant, meanwhile, is fully loaded with standard features including leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel, electrically foldable wing mirrors, push-button start, multi-information display, climate control, rear AC vents and a 2-Din infotainment system.
The BR-V gets a 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine in both petrol and diesel form. While the former develops 118bhp of power and 145Nm of torque, the diesel makes 100bhp and 200Nm respectively. Although a 6-speed manual is standard on both drivelines, the petrol model can also be had with a CVT. The Honda BR-Vis now on sale across the country and competes with the likes of Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster.
