Honda’s domestic sales in India for January 2017 were down by 10 per cent. The carmaker sold 15,592 units last month as compared to 17,135 cars they sold in the same period last year.

The company however recorded sales of 982 units on the exports front, which takes the overall sales numbers to 16,574 units. The demonetisation drive has had a toll on the carmaker's sales figures, but the company is expecting the numbers to start climbing again as the situation has come back to normalcy.

Yoichiro Ueno, President and CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, "HCIL sales results recovered this month as the consumer sentiment and currency situation has started improving gradually. We hope the situation normalises and market recovers quickly."

The negative growth shouldn't be a deterrent to the carmaker as they will soon launch new models for the Indian market. With the launch of the City facelift this month and the WR-V (Jazz-based crossover) next month, we can expect Honda to get the necessary boost in sales.
