Honda Motor Company, the well appreciated Japanese multinational auto major, is believed to have expanded its Brio platform into a Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV). The Brio-based Honda MPV is expected to be launched in Indonesian auto market by the end of April '13. Around the same time, Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), a completely owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Co., has also expressed interest in introducing the Amaze compact sedan in the domestic market. Interestingly, the upcoming Honda Amaze shares platform with Brio and actually is just an extended version of the stylish hatchback.

As per reports, the Honda Brio based MPV is anticipated to incorporate same engine and platform as the hatchback, besides an attractive pricing as well. The upcoming Honda MPV's design seems to be on the similar lines of Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. Upon its arrival on Indian turf, the Brio-based MPV will be pitched in a stiff face off against the likes of Ertiga, Mahindra Xylo and Nissan Evalia amid others. Since it’s going to be a MPV, space for accommodating seven passengers (including driver) is expected in the Honda model.

Coming to under-the-hood specifications of Brio MPV, the model could be powered with a 1.5 litre i-VTEC naturally aspirated petrol engine. The engine assembly is anticipated to come mated to both manual and automatic transmission models. No specific time frame for the arrival of Honda Brio MPV has been revealed as of yet, but sources are hinting at a 2014 launch date for the Indian market.
