Honda Motor Company, the world-renowned Japanese auto major, has announced that it would make a comeback to FIA Formula One World Championship during the 2015 season. The company left the Formula One space, as 'Honda Racing F1 Team' after finishing ninth on the Constructors' charts in the 2008 season. Further, Honda is expected to return stronger and hungrier than ever under a joint collaboration with the British firm- McLaren in 2015.

As per reports, Honda would be taking care of the development and manufacture of the engine, along with supply of the power unit. The Japanese auto maker's partner McLaren would design, develop and manufacture the chassis of the race car, besides handling the newly formed team.

Speaking his mind on the exciting news and return of Honda to the world's biggest motorsports event, Takanobu Ito, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Honda Motor Company, was quoted as saying, “"Ever since its establishment, Honda has been a company which grows by taking on challenges in racing. Honda has a long history of advancing our technologies and nurturing our people by participating in the world's most prestigious automobile racing series. The new F1 regulations with their significant environmental focus will inspire even greater development of our own advanced technologies and this is central to our participation in F1.”

Honda has had a long on and off association with the F1 motorsport since the 1960s. The company participated as an 'all Honda' team and made its own engine and chassis during the 1964-68 period. Honda came back as an engine supplier in the year 1983 (till 1992), and won both constructors' and drivers' championship titles for four consecutive seasons (1988-91). The Japanese car maker again participated in F1 during 2000-05 and then from 2006-08 periods.

Speaking on Honda's comeback announcement, Bernie Ecclestone, CEO of the Formula One Group, was quoted as saying, “It is a great pleasure to see Honda back in Formula One. Their engine technology and passion for motor sports make them a natural Formula One contender.”
