The entry level sedan segment in the Indian car market has a lot of competition with vehicles like Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire and Hyundai Accent. Honda Amaze, launched earlier this year, has generated tremendous buzz and is topping the charts in its segment. The Japanese auto maker introduced this entry level sedan with a lot of hopes and the response has been satisfactory to say the least. At the launch of Amaze, Yoshiyuki Matsumoto, the Managing Officer at Honda Motor Company, had said “The Amaze is our most strategic model in the Indian market and has been developed with strong focus on Indian requirements.”
It must be noted that Honda Amaze faces a stiff competition from the Hyundai Accent, which has been in the Indian car market for a long time. Industry experts have drawn comparison several time between the Honda Amaze and Hyundai Accent. While the former is equipped with a 4-cylinder SOHC i-VTEC engine with a displacement of 1198 cc, the latter is powered by a 1.5 litre SOHC 4-cylinder drivetrain. In terms of the output of produced, the Accent trumps Amaze as it generates 93 bhp as compared to Amaze's 86 bhp. The fuel tank capacity of the Hyundai sedan is 45 litres, while its Honda counterpart can store up to 35 litres.
Based on the successful Brio platform, the Honda Amaze has an elegant design featuring chromed twin slat grille and sporty alloy wheels. On the other hand, the Accent features a simple design language with clean and neutral lines. If a comparison is drawn between the styling of the two vehicles, Honda Amaze comes out on top due to its modern day and stylish appearance. Both the Hyundai Accent and Honda Amaze have good interiors with powerful air conditioning and utility features. However, the Amaze has a larger boot space than the Accent, which gives in an edge in terms of spaciousness.
Honda Amaze has a clear advantage over the Hyundai Accent due to its modern features and new age looks. Although, Hyundai is dominant in the Indian car market, Honda is slowly catching up. The Japanese auto maker has received worldwide acclaim for its recently developed Brio platform, which has been used in the Honda Amaze. Also, Honda has employed an aggressive pricing strategy in order to improve its stand in the Indian car market. This ploy has worked well so far with a high number of people purchasing the Honda Amaze. Apart from this, the Honda Amaze has higher value for money than the Hyundai Accent.
