The new entry level sedan Amaze from Honda Cars India is all set for a launch on April 11, 2013. On the engine front, the Amaze gets a 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol engine sourced from Brio, which generates a maximum power of 87 bhp, while the new 1.5 litre i-DTEC Earth Dreams diesel engine develops 99 bhp. The diesel block is a revolutionary product which has been made of lightweight aluminium, to make it lighter than conventional diesel engines. With this, the Amaze would be able to generate class-leading efficiency of 25.8 kmpl as per ARAI.

Ten different variants of the Honda Amaze are to be launched, which would include 6 petrol and 4 diesel models. Two models would be powered by Automatic Transmission (AT), while all the other models would have a manual transmission (MT). VX, E, EX, S (MT petrol), S (AT petrol) versions, while the same would be available in diesel as well, but without an automatic gearbox.

From outside, the Honda Amaze entry level sedan looks like a newly designed vehicle, with prominent lines of design all round. It also looks like the Honda Brio hatch, but several design changes are evident as well. The length of this vehicle easily flows into the boot and does not appear to overhang, unlike its arch rival Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire.

In terms of competition, the Amaze is pitted against market leader Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Tata Indigo eCS, Ford Classic and Toyota Etios. Industry experts believe that the Amaze's fresh design will be a refreshing change from all the other models in the entry level segment. The vehicle's power output of 99 bhp is highest in this segment, which would ensure super drivability at all times. For the first time, the position of Maruti Swift DZire may finally be threatened.
