Honda is on its way to update the compact sedan, the Amaze, this year – pictures of which have surfaced on the internet. Launched in 2013, the India specific sedan is based on the Brio platform.

The new Amaze looks sharp and aggressive. It gets a new grille with a single horizontal thick chrome slat like the Mobilio. The headlamps have been carried forward but the bumper gets a fresh look. The honey comb mesh grille adds sportiness and also houses the fog lamps on the top-spec version. The side profile is exactly the same with the design of the alloys being retained. The tail lamp internals have been redesigned and is the only noticeable change at the rear.

The interior seems to have undergone more changes, starting with the dashboard. The rectangular AC vents from the Honda City make it to the Amaze along with the silver accents to make it look premium. The 2-DIN music system gets a digital display and should now allow music to be played via Bluetooth. The top-end variants will be offered with the touch-screen AVN system with GPS navigation that is being offered with the current Amaze.

The instrument cluster is revamped with the dials coming in from the Indonesian car. The Amaze also gets automatic climate control though it is not clear if it would be a standard across all the variants. The interior remains predominantly beige with black and silver accents. Under the hood, the 1.2-litre i-Vtec petrol engine and the 1.5-litre i-Dtec diesel engine will continue to perform their duties. The petrol and diesel engines will get the five-speed manual transmission while the automatic gearbox will be limited to petrol cars only.

The Amaze competes within the compact sedan segment with the likes of Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Ford Aspire, Tata Zest and the upcoming Volkswagen Ameo.
