      Honda Amaze crosses 1 lakh unit sales mark in 16 months

      Honda’s compact sedan Amaze has crossed the 1 lakh sales mark within 16 months of its launch in India. With this the vehicle has become fastest car from Honda India’s stable to achieve this landmark. Being a game changer for Honda Cars India, Amaze was the first vehicle from Honda to be launched with diesel engine option. Underpinning Brio platform, Amaze is one of the poplar options in compact sedan segment.

      The sedan also received a total of 12 awards including “Car of the Year” and “Compact Sedan of the Year” felicitated by numerous leading magazines during fiscal 2013-2014. Offered in 12 trim levels in both petrol and diesel guise, the compact sedan comes with the option of manual and automatic gearbox.

      Petrol range of Amaze is powered by the low displacement, 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol engine and the diesel variants are equipped with Honda’s 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel powertrain that now also powers new City sedan and Mobilio MPV. The newly developed 1.5 litre diesel engine is capable of developing a top power output of 100 PS at 3600 RPM and a peak torque of 200 Nm at 1750 RPM. Launched at an introductory price of Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom price) the sedan clinched as many as 22,000 bookings within three weeks of its launch.

      Attributes like segment best fuel economy and a string of high end features made the car overpower its rivals in domestic market. Honda Amaze’s popularity is not just confined to metro cities but it is poplar in tier-2 and tier-3 markets also. The sedan continues to post robust sales even today and is a major contributor in Honda’s monthly sales after new City sedan. Honda India is contemplating expanding its dealership network, Honda presently has its outlets in 150 which the company eyes expanding to 230 cities by end of this fiscal.
