Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India recently overtook Hero Splendor as the most selling two-wheeler in the Indian market, which can be considered as a huge achievement for a model from a foreign company. In fact, this model has single-handedly changed the course of the scooter market in India, opening up avenues for other firms as well, who have now launched their own models in the market. Industry experts have tried to contemplate the reason behind the success of Honda Activa and the biggest is the kind of upgrades it has received. Over the past few years, since its launch, Honda Activa has received a lot of upgrades and variants.

Activa was launched in India at a time when automatic scooters were considered a luxury and Bajaj models were in vogue, making them the number one company in the market. However, Honda Activa changed the course of the two wheeler market in India and slowly the model started a trend in India. The comfort, performance and ride ability of Activa made it trump all other rivals and it started a legacy. One big advantage that this model had over rivals was that it could be ridden by women as well, thereby its market was expanded.

From being a normal scooter, Honda Activa turned out to be a scooter for all ages when a new version was launched in 2009, taking the market by storm. Increasing the power and adding to the style made this two-wheeler more appealing as well. In 2013, a stylish version of Activa was launched, called the Activa-i, giving the model a new dimension and increasing its market exponentially.

Technology upgrades, engine improvement and increased power were the new features of the 125 cc Honda Activa, which was launched in April. This model has performed really well up to now and experts feel that Activa’s market is only going to grow. Yadvinder S. Guleria, Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, in context of Honda Activa’s success, said, “We are excited that Honda Activa has once again become the highest selling two-wheeler of India in March’14 after Sept’13. This clearly indicates that Activa is exponentially getting acceptance as the most preferred choice of two-wheeler for commuting in the country.”
