Japan based leading car maker Nissan is rumoured to source a brand new compact car from Hinduja’s Defiance Technologies, which will be followed by car’s production at Nissan’s in-house facility.

As per industry sources, Nissan will produce and market a small car that is currently at the stage of designing and development at Defiance’s facility. The car has been speculated to be shelved in the price bracket of Rs 2.5 to 3 lakh in the Indian market. However, it will take another 2 to 3 years for this car to hit the Indian roads.

The prospective small car is likely be rolled out in 2013 and will feature two engine options and two wheel base variants, as reported by Indian news daily TOI, recently.

Nissan India is also developing a small car under an in-house project – K2 – that will be positioned in the price segment of sub Rs 3.5 lakh. Now as it has already launched compact hatchback Micra and plans to launch a new entry level sedan by Oct 2011, the company would have an end-to-end compact car range in its Indian portfolio in coming years; right from Alto’s A+ segment to B+ segment of Swift Dzire.

Moreover, the company is also considering to launch an ultra low cost car in its India portfolio in coming year, which it is developing in association with its global partner Renault and leading domestic two-wheeler maker Bajaj.
