      Hero MotoCorp's Leap scooter may revolutionize hybrid segment in India

      Country's largest bike-maker Hero MotoCorp. surprised the Indian auto enthusiasts at the 2014 Auto Expo event with the production version of Leap scooter. First glimpse The concept version of Leap scooter was first exhibited around two years ago at the 11th Auto Expo in the country. News has been doing rounds that Hero MotoCorp may launch their first ever hybrid scooter named ‘Leap’ in the beginning of next year.

      The scooter is expected to be powered by a newly developed 124 cc engine. The hybrid scooter shall also receive a 3.0 litre fuel tank capacity so that the scooter can run on petrol mode in-case the scooter runs out of power from the battery. In the battery mode the scooter is stated to be powered by 11 Bhp traction motor and lithium-ion batteries. Leap’s permanent magnet AC (PMAC) traction motor enables to pump out a top torque output of 60 Nm from nil. While running with the range extender the hybrid scooter attains a top speed of 100 kmph.

      For now it is being said that the company may manufacture only about 6,000 units of Leap on yearly basis at its manufacturing unit located in Gurgaon. Depending on the response, the company might enhance its production capacity in coming time. The company has designed the new scooter foreseeing scope in the overseas markets as well.
