India's largest two-wheeler maker, Hero MotoCorp Limited ( HMCL) has made its foray in the international market, just a year after separating from Honda two-wheelers, by offering its vehicles in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In order to carve a niche in the Sri Lankan auto market, the auto major has formed a venture with one of the biggest Sri Lankan business Group, ABANS, which will promote its vehicles in the country.

According to the alliance between the two, ABANS has been nominated as the single dealer of Hero MotoCorp in the Sri Lankan auto industry. In the initial stage, the company will distribute its vehicles through an official dealership network of over 50 outlets, which would be eventually two-folded by the end of next year.

Following the same path, Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) Limited, has also announced its plans to mark its presence in the Sri Lankan two-wheeler market. Besides introducing its scooter range in the country, M&M is also working on some new ventures in the region, including on the grounds of hospitality, finance and Information Technology (IT).

It has been three years since the long lasting civil war in Sri Lanka came to an end, which enabled its neighbouring country to bank upon its highly potential market. In a view of reaping decent profits from the country, Hero MotoCorp and M&M have already made up their mind to launch their products there. And it is quite apparent that Bajaj Auto, India's largest two-wheeler manufacturer, among others, will also be striving to mark its presence in Sri Lanka with an expectation of capturing the hearts of Sri Lankans through its performance oriented model line-up.
