As Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch its M-Class ML350 CDI, a comparison of the revamped design and powertrain specifications with its competitors BMW X5 xDrive30d and Audi Q7 3.0 TDI is inevitable.

Comparing the engines, the entry level BMW X5 (xDrive30d) generates power of 241 hp which is similar to that of Audi 3.0 TDI engine. Mercedes plans to introduce the ML350 CDI in the same range which delivers 231 bhp.

In terms of mileage, the X5 tops the charts delivering 13.18 kmpl. The 350 CDI acquires the second position with fuel efficiency of 11.2 kmpl. The Mercedes is closely followed by Q7's 3.0 TDI powertrain consuming 12.62 kmpl.

All the three models come with the Lane Change Warning technology, Active Cruise Control and a rear-view camera. However, BMW X5 goes few steps ahead with its genuine optional equipments. Following the need for driver to focus on the road, the Head-Up Display ensures extra comfort and reduce need to monitor the speedometer. The X5 also comes with an option of Surround View with side cameras integrated in the front wheel arches and a view of the car from above.

The X5 also features the largest navigation panel with its professional navigation system featuring 8.8 inch LCD. Navigation Plus Map My India (MMI) features a 7.0 inch LCD in Q7 and a 6.5 inch LCD features the Mercedes Command APS system.

Heaviest among the three is Q7 weighing nearly 2,345 kg followed by X5 weighing 2,150 kg. At 2,135 kg, the ML 350 walks close with X5. However, a noteworthy point is that the Q7 is around 9 inches and 12.2 inches longer than the X5 and M-Class respectively.

Amongst the three cars, BMW X5 with its impressive power output, additional technological add-ons and greater mileage at a moderate price tag, is the clear winner. The Mercedes ML 350CDI and Audi Q7 3.0 TDI are toe to toe in most of the aspects.
