It seems that the good days have certainly arrived, at least if you are in Gujarat police. The law-enforcers of the state will soon receive a fleet of Harley-Davidson motorcycles for the purpose of patrolling the city and keeping crime under check. Two Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the Superlow and the 750, have been spotted at the headquarters. They were painted in white with the text Police embossed in black. Equipped with a wireless communicator, a siren and a warning light, these machines were the attraction of the day for the people in uniform.

The Street 750 is the most affordable of the Harley-Davidson model in the country, as of now. Incidentally, the 750 was the recipient of the prestigious Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) award for the year 2014. The other model, which was spotted, is the Superlow, powered by a bulkier 883 cc air-cooled, evolution engine. It is expected that the entire fleet will join quite soon. Incidentally, the Gujarat police force has purchased 225 Bolero white jeep models, 350 bikes, among which 23 will be distributed to the Gandhinagar police soon.

If the reports are to be trusted, not much action awaits the Harley-Davidson models, as usual and most of these will be utilised for the so-called escorting and piloting of VIP convoys. Unlike most of the 45 nations, which use Harley-Davidson police motorcycles for high speed action to chase defaulters, India still opts for such powerful bikes for garnishing purposes only. Well, definitely, it is a head start for beginners. Somewhere down the line, we can all wait for more of such high performing bikes put to direct utilisation for penalising defaulters and reducing crime in urban cities.
