      GM India drops plans of launching Cadillac in India

      General Motors Cadillac, the popular luxury car brand that was expected to be launched in India in coming months, will not be hitting Indian roads in near future as the company has shelved the plan to launch it. The move has been taken even after receiving a strong feedback from the market. The company wants to focus on its popular brand Chevrolet in India at the moment.

      While speaking to the reporters in a ceremony held in Kolkata, GM India president and managing director Karl Slym said, "We have completed a survey on Cadillac and I must say it is having a strong brand recognition." He however added that the company is not willing to launch the brand Cadillac in the Indian market.

      While speaking at the launching ceremony of Beat Diesel in Kolkata, Mr. Slym said, that the company want to focus on Chevrolet at the moment for which GM India had invested a fortune on building infrastructure like plants.

      The company is aggressively planning to boost its India portfolio with launch of a series of new cars in the Indian market. It plans to launch as many as five new vehicles in the country over a period f next 18 months. Moreover, GM India will be expanding the capacity of its Halol and Talegaon plant to 1.10 lakh and 1.7 lakh units, respectively. For this, the company has planned-up a investment of US$ 500 mn in the country.
