Volvo has unveiled the new generation XC60 SUV at the ongoing Geneva Motor Show. The XC60 has been the most successful SUV for the Swedish manufacturer and the all new XC60 retains all the good qualities of the outgoing model while adding a fresh air to it.

The new XC60 is based on the same Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) design platform that is also used by the XC90. It now gets the family face with the addition of Thor’s Hammer headlamps. The tail lamps are sleeker and extend to the tail gate. Overall the car grows more upright and grown up. It measures 4,690mm in length, 62mm more than the outgoing car, is 1,902mm wide and 1,658mm in height, 12mm and 14mm more respectively. The wheelbase at 2,865mm grows by 91mm. all this translates to more cabin space, especially at the rear since the new design allows a better cab-back approach. On the inside, the cabin just as subtle and luxurious as it is on the XC90. There are four-zone climate control and support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.

Being a Volvo, the XC60 comes with all the bells and whistle when it comes to safety. New addition to the long list of safety equipment are Steer Assist, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and Blind Spot Indication System (BLIS). Steer assist is used to mitigate head-on collisions whereas BLIS uses it reduce the risk of lane-changing collisions. Pilot Assist function comes as an optional extra.

Powering the most successful SUV in Volvo’s line-up will be offered with an array of engine options. At launch, it will be available with 187bhp D4 diesel and a 232bhp D5 diesel with PowerPulse technology. The petrol variants would include a T5 with 254bhp and a turbo and super charges T6 producing an impressive 320 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Volvo would also provide the XC60 with T8 Twin Engine petrol plug-in hybrid setup from the XC90 delivering a whopping 407bhp accelerating the car from 0-100kmph in just 5.3seconds. More economical T4 petrol and D3 diesel engine options will follow later. When it hits the road, it will go up against the likes of Audi Q5, BMW X3, Jaguar F-Pace and Mercedes-Benz GLC in the thriving mid-size SUV sector
