Chevrolet Sales India Private Limited (CSIPL), a division of General Motors India Private Limited (GMIPL) has revealed intentions to launch a revamped variant of its popular entry-level Spark hatch in the domestic market, possibly by the end of October 2012.
The upcoming facelifted version of Spark is anticipated to play host to a whole new gamut of interesting interior and exterior modifications along with better fuel efficiency ratings. Upon launch, the reworked Chevrolet Spark will get involved in a direct and intense face off against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and some fireworks must be expected right before the Diwali.
Coming to the engine specifications, the new Chevrolet entry-level small car is expected to come with the same 995 cc, 4 cylinder, 1 litre petrol motor that comes in the current variant of the Spark hatchback. The petrol engine could deliver a peak power-torque equation of 63 bhp and 90 Nm, respectively.
The surprising development seems to have stemmed from the strong reception received by the latest entry-level product from stables of Maruti Suzuki, Alto 800 small car from the Indian buyers. Reportedly, the facelifted Alto wrapped up a whopping number of more than 10,000 advanced bookings within a span of a little more than two weeks. Accordingly, the American auto maker will be aspiring to cash-in on the current craze for entry-level products amongst Indian car enthusiasts and repeat a success story just like the Alto 800.
The Indian entry-level small car segment seems to be getting bigger and bigger with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto, Alto 800, Hyundai Eon, Tata Nano and Chevy Spark competing against each other for the market domination, at present. The addition of a revamped product which is already popular, appears to be a smart strategy by the company towards consolidating a strong position on the domestic turf. With launches of Sail and the upcoming facelifted Spark, Chevrolet and General Motors could be headed in the perfect direction, which is alluring the first time Indian car buyers just before Diwali.
