General Motors is planning to hike prices of its models in India. Its popular small car, Chevrolet Spark, is currently available at a discount price but its price will be raised by the end of the month. According to the company director, Karl Slym, the company needs to increase the price owing to the tough market conditions and rising input costs. The price hike will be effective across all models in the Chevrolet portfolio.
General Motors also intends to launch two new models in India this year. It is all set to roll out Chevrolet Cruze by June this year and its mini car based on Beat concept by the end of this year. “Both the Cruze and Minicar options were showcased at the Paris motor show and suitable models factoring Indian conditions would be rolled out. We are currently in the process of testing prototypes of the car variants,” said Slym.
He also added that the company is also working on the 1 litre and 1.5 litre diesel engines that will not only cater to the domestic demands in models like the new mini car and U-VA but will also cater to the exports demand for its global cars.
