General Motors India Private Limited, a completely owned subsidiary of the American car maker, has announced to increase the prices of its entire vehicle range by up to Rs. 10,000, from the first week of June 2013. The company has revealed that the price hike was imminent and necessary, in order to offset the rising logistics costs due to increase in the price of diesel fuel.

Expressing his views on the same, P. Balendran, Vice President (VP), was quoted as saying, “With diesel prices going up on regular intervals, transportation and other logistic costs have gone up significantly. We are left with no option, but to pass on the burden partially to consumers.” He added that the price hike would be put in effect from the first week of June next month. Balendran further added, “We are yet to finalise the exact amount, but it will be up to 1.5 per cent, which will be around Rs. 10,000, depending upon different models and their variants.”
