Maserati has introduced the 2018 model year updates to the GranTurismo range. The model gets minor aesthetic tweaks apart from updated drivetrain options. Currently on display at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new GranTurismo will be available in two versions - Sport and MC.
The MC - for Maserati Corse – replaces the previous MC Stradale, and offers more features than before including the five selectable operating modes. The naturally aspirated V8 unit, made by Ferrari in Maranello, weighs 175kg. The 4.7-litre engine features a wet sump and a cross-plane crankshaft for better throttle response and a distinctive sound.
The most prominent exterior update is the reworked front fascia with inspiration taken from the Maserati Alfieri concept from 2014. The iconic grille is now more hexagonal, similar to the Alfieri concept and is now flanked by large air intakes on either side. The splitter lip beneath it adds character. However, the Italian carmaker claims that these tweaks were able to reduce the aerodynamic drag from 0.33 to 0.32. The bumper's lateral air ducts, introduced in the MC Stradale and adopted across the GranTurismo range in 2012, are redesigned for 2018.
The track-focused MC is equipped with a carbon-fibre bonnet in the body colour as standard. The bonnet also features downforce-optimizing air-vents. Additionally, there are vertical air vents in the front wings, deep functional side skirts, titanium brake calipers (black in Sport) and 20-inch Trofeo Silver forged wheels.
Maserati has no plans of bringing a replacement for the highly successful yet ageing GranTurismo anytime soon.
