      Fords new small car to hit Indian roads by year 2014

      Excited with the huge success of its compact hatchback Figo in the Indian auto market, the US auto giant Ford is all set to launch a new small car in the country that will be placed below the segment of Figo. This will be a global small car and it will be produced at the company’s Sanad Facility in Gujarat.

      The new Ford small car will be launched in the price range of Rs 3 to 4 lakh where it will be taking on the likes of Maruti A-Star, Wagon R, Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat. It is speculated to hit the Indian roads by year 2014. The car has been codenamed as B562 and will possible be powered by firm’s 1-litre Ecoboost petrol engine.

      The news came just a month after the firm signed a pact with government of Gujarat to establish a new manufacturing plant in the state. The new Ford small car will be cheapest in the India portfolio of this US auto giant.

      In a recent statement given to ET, Ford India spokesman said, "Ford India has announced bringing eight new products by mid-decade that customers want and desire. We recently launched the global Fiesta, first of the eight new products, which is generating great interest. We have not made any specific announcements of future products to be manufactured from our new or current manufacturing sites."

      The upcoming small car is currently under development at the company’s Brazil based Research & Development facility. Ford India has already announced its plans of rolling-out eight new car models in the country by year 2015.

      Ford
