Ford is basking in the success of its small car Figo in the Indian market. The car has its diesel variant readily available along with its petrol variant which has added to its success story. Now the company has plans underway to introduce the car in newer markets which included short-listed 48 countries. However, before planning to start full-scale exports of its small car, Ford is planning to ramp up its production capacities in India to meet not only the rising domestic demand but also the new demand from overseas markets.

The search is on already and the company has earmarked the regions of Gujarat in this regard, possibly in the neighbourhood of Tata's Sanand plant. Ford India is also on the verge of launching its  8 new car models before 2015 which makes expansion further important. The official negotiations with the Gujarat government officials are going on and something would materialize at any time, it is learnt. If any of the negotiations are finalised, Ford will step on board with General Motors and Tata Motors in the land of Gujarat.

Ford has also been exploring possibilities near Chennai where it already has its power train facility but has been having second thoughts on the same owing to the growing labour union problems in Tamil Nadu.
