      Ford targets to double production with the inauguration of Sanand plant

      Ford, as of now, has a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and the automobile giant is planning to open its second plant in India. The American auto maker plans to start operations from its new Sanand plant from March 26, 2015. The inauguration ceremony will take place in the auspicious presence of the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Anandiben Patel and also present will be the US consulate at the time of inauguration. It will mark the entry of the manufacturer in Gujarat after a successful sting in Tamil Nadu. In 2012, the Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi had convinced the automobile giant to invest in Sanand. Approximately, USD one billion (Rs 620 crores) has been invested for the development of this project.

      Riding on the new manufacturing facility, the company will be able to double its production, which means 1.4 lakh units yearly. Ford will also expand its export markets to 100 to 120, which will lead to creation of new scope of around 5000 new job positions in the company. There are also reports that the company will launch some new models this year, namely Figo hatchback and Figo Aspire compact sedan. Both these models will be manufactured at its new facility in Sanand. The hatch will be launched in September while the sedan is supposed to make an entry in July. Industry experts are of a view that if these models are priced competitively, they might have a successful stint here.

      It is also believed that Ford will definitely be able to cater the emerging demands now with the new manufacturing facility. Also, it is anticipated that the long waiting periods for the new vehicles will reduce now.
