American carmaker Ford moves a step ahead on the technological front and files for trademark application for its “EcoBeast” technology at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The branding could likely be a new engine or a new vehicle that the carmaker has been working on for a while.

Currently, the F-150 Raptor from Ford has been fondly nicknamed as the EcoBeast by its owners. The vehicle gets a 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 petrol engine under its hood and the move to get the name patented is like a positive move made by the carmaker to protect customer interest. The EcoBoost technology marked its presence way back in 2009 and stood out in the automotive industry with the direct-injected, turbocharged, and fuel efficient gasoline family of engines.

Ford registering the technology late in 2014, hints on a possibility of a new trim being unveiled by the American carmaker at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit. More details may be known at time of official announcement being made by the company in this regard.
