The Euro NCAP test conducted earlier this year awarded two stars to Ford Mustang due to lack of several safety features. Taking a note of it, the ones produced from July 2017 get more safety equipment as standard, thereby upgrading to three star rating at the Euro NCAP. Speaking of features, it now gets pre-collision assist with pedestrian detection, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking, and the lane keeping aid as standard.
Prior to safety upgrade, the airbags in the Mustang also failed to fully inflate and reports also indicate that the seatbelt pre-tensioners and the load-limiters also did not optimally function. Although the company offers the forward collision warning system as a standard on Mustangs sold in North America, it was not offered as a standard on the Europe-spec model. The addition of one star to the rating has been awarded without conducting a crash test for the second time and is based on claims by Ford that the problems have been rectified.
Scores for adult safety and child safety remain unchanged at 72 per cent and 32 per cent respectively. However, the Mustang now scores 78 per cent in pedestrian safety as against the older 64 per cent and the safety-assist technology has risen from 16 per cent to 61 per cent. The fresh lot of Mustangs in India is expected to get this modern safety equipment as a standard since the vehicle is sold in India is via the CBU route.
