American carmaker Ford has been a strong brand on global automotive platform. Ford with more than a generation of presence in the automobile sector has delivered some of finest machines for the global market. This time around, in an attempt to make its cars more safer, Ford has developed a Pre-collision Assist and Pedestrian Detection Technology that is capable of completely avoiding or minimizing risk in case of frontal collision.

The collision warning technology is likely to be used for the first time in the upcoming European trim of 2015 Ford Modeo. The technology works using a windshield mounted camera and radar technology that has been mounted on the front bumper to scan the road ahead. When the system identifies a potential collision situation involving a pedestrian or a vehicle, it alerts the driver about the risk. In case the driver fails to respond, the vehicle automatically reduces the gap between brake disc and the brake pad. In situations where a collision is unavoidable the system applies brakes with full force to avoid hitting or reducing the severity of the impact.

Speaking more on the technology, Scott Lindstrom, Ford manager, Driver Assist Technologies said, “The real-world testing was an important part of the development because pedestrians in an urban setting can present a wide range of potential situations. We covered more than 300,000 miles on three continents that included a wide range of settings and situations.” Adding to this, Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development said, “This technology adds to the already impressive list of driver-assist technologies Ford customers benefit from today.”
