      Ford Indias second manufacturing unit coming-up in Gujarat

      The Indian unit of the US based leading auto maker Ford Motors is gearing-up to set-up its second manufacturing plant in the Indian market. The state government of Gujarat will be allocating 400 acres of land near Tata Nano's mother plant in Sanand (about 40 kms from Ahmedabad) to Ford. In addition to this, the government has earmarked 100 acre for the vendor park. A formal announcement from the government’s side will be made today, with the signing of an MoU following. While from the Ford’s side MoU will be signed by Joe Hinrichs (president, Ford Asia Pacific and Africa) and Michael Boneham (president and managing director), Ford India.

      At present, Ford has its manufacturing unit in Chennai, where it produces a range of its India portfolio cars. In a recent written communication with ET, the company said that in line with its long term commitment, Ford continues to pursue an aggressive growth strategy in India to bring world-class vehicles.

      Ford India plans to add as many as 8 new car models in the Indian market over the period of next 4 years. For this, the US based car maker plans to enhance its manufacturing capacity along with dealership network to cater the increasing demand for its cars in the Indian market.
