Ford India reported 66 per cent hike in sales in the month of April at 6,651 units as against 4,003 units sold in the same month corresponding year. On export front, the American car maker witnessed almost two fold increase with 6,646 units shipped to overseas market as compared to 3,267 units exported in the same month last year.
Vinay Piparsania, Executive Director of Marketing, Sales and Service at Ford India, said, “Despite on-going business challenges faced by Indian automotive industry, Ford India sales have held steady in April. In the run up to the formation of the next Government, we remain cautious and watchful in anticipation of progressive policy interventions to energize the Indian automotive sector.”
Ford’s popular compact SUV, EcoSport is exported to many countries from India; this is one major reason behind the vehicle’s long waiting period in the domestic market. EcoSport’s waiting period goes up to six months in some of the cities across the nation as the company is unable to sufficespiralingdemand. Launched in India in June 2013, EcoSport has been a preeminent contributor towards monthly sales of Ford India ever since its launch. A few days back, Ford rolled out a minor facelift of Endeavour premium SUV in India. The SUV had been garnering lukewarm sales in domestic market for quite some time, hence it was a much needed facelift given in order to push sales. 2014 Ford Endeavour is available for sale in India at Rs 19.83 lakh (ex-showroom price). However, a comprehensively modified version of Endeavour is also in the making which was displayed as Everest SUV at the recently concluded Beijing Motor Show. Until the copiously tweaked SUV arrives in India, Ford has put on offer this minor upgraded version for the Indian customers. Whether this minor upgrade help Ford rev up sales of Endeavour will be seen until sales report for the month of May comes out.
