      Ford India reports dip of 30 per cent in February 2013

      Ford India, the domestic division of American auto maker, has registered a fall of 30.4 per cent in its monthly sales for February 2013. During the period, the auto maker delivered 7,253 units in the Indian auto market over 10,424 units being delivered in the year-ago period, said by Ford India in a statement. Reportedly, the domestic sales of the auto maker stood at 4,490 units in February 2013, marking a fall of 44.12 per cent, when compared against 8,035 units being sold during the same period of last year.

      Speaking on the sales performance, the Executive Director (Marketing, Sales and Service) of the company, Vinay Piparsania was quoted as saying, “In the domestic market, we continue to witness some tough and challenging conditions...policy uncertainty and resulting lowered consumer confidence is impacting our business.”

      The exports of Ford India stood at 2,763 units during the month with an increase of 15.6 per cent against 2,389 units shipped in the corresponding period of 2012. He further said that the company is preparing for some aggressive strategies for the international auto market in order to position India as its export hub for small cars.

      Moreover, the auto maker is also planning for the launch of its much awaited compact Sports Utility Vehicle, EcoSport in the Indian auto market. Although the launch date of the model is yet not confirmed, several promotional strategies have been already introduced for EcoSport in India. Experts believe that the launch of EcoSport in the Indian market will surely change the game for American auto maker, which will pull in volumes from compact SUV segment.
