      Ford India plans to export Figo to 48 countries in 2011

      Ford India, a subsidiary of US based leading car maker Ford Motors, announced on Saturday that it would export its popular compact hatchback Figo to at least 48 foreign countries in the regions like South America, Africa and Middle East, in 2011.

      Speaking to reporters in Kochi, Ford India’s Vice President Sales, Mr. N Raja said, ‘Last year, Ford had exported about 7000 units of the new Ford Figo model to South Africa as there was good demand. The company has started exporting to Nepal and this year it would be exporting Figo to 48 countries. Europe will be the next stage.’

      After selling more than 80,000 cars in calendar year 2010, the company is now aiming to sell over 1,00,000 cars in current year. Moreover, it is planning to roll-out as many as 8 new car models in the Indian market in next five years.

      In the state of Kerala, where the company had sold more than 4,000 units of its Figo model last year, it is hoping to double this sales figure in year 2011.

      The current product portfolio of the company in the Indian market includes compact car Figo, entry-level sedans like Fiesta and Ikon, and luxury sports utility vehicle (SUV) Endeavour.
