      Ford India mulls to enhance production capacity in India

      Amidst its rapidly growing sales figures in the Indian market, the Indian unit of US based leading car maker Ford Motors is mulling to enhance its production capacity in the Indian market through a further investment in its India operations.

      Speaking to the reporters at the launching ceremony of the all new Fiesta Classic in the Indian market, Ford India managing director and President Michael Boneham told reporters, "We will make an announcement on further investment soon. We have room at our existing location for expansion."

      At present, the company has a total production capacity of 200,000 units per annum in the country. Moreover, the company also has an engine plant working on three shifts rolling out 250,000 units per annum. According to Mr. Boneham, the manufacturing plant of the company is working in double shifts and is expected to touch a production capacity of around 150,000 by the end of this calendar year.

      In the first three months of the current calendar year, Ford India has sold over 29,804 units of its cars in the Indian market. The company had sold a total of 83,887 units in the last calendar year. Moreover, the company plans to roll-out 8 new car models in the Indian market by year 2015.
