Ford India is aiming to launch three new cars this year including new Figo compact sedan, new Figo hatchback and new generation Endeavour SUV. While the hatchback would go on sale by second half of 2015, the SUV will be launched by the festive sedan. The first car to be launched in the market will be the Figo sedan, which has already been launched in the Brazilian market as the Ka+ sedan. Unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, the compact sedan will rival against the likes of Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Zest and Honda Amaze.
Ford India has already imported the Figo sedan from Brazil for testing and R&D purpose, and reports suggest that the production of the sedan is likely to commence soon. The Indian-spec model will be a sub-4 metre car, while the Brazilian model measures over 4 metres in length. The Figo sedan will be manufactured at Ford’s new production facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The new model is based on the thoroughly modified European Fiesta platform that also underpins the Figo hatchback and Classic sedan.
The Ford Figo sedan will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. Two petrol engine options to be offered on the sedan will the 1.5-litre 4-cylinder and 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine that also powers the EcoSport compact SUV. The oil burner is the same 1.5-litre 4-cylinder TDCi turbo diesel engine. A five-speed manual transmission gearbox will be offered as standard, while an automatic gearbox would come as an option.
