We have got exclusive images of the all-new Figo Cross from Ford and it seems like Ford is leaving no stones unturned to get into the thick of the volume game in India. The ‘Cross’ tribe hasn’t been much successful in the country but this one might buck the trend because of its price.

The Figo Cross is based on the Figo hatchback and borrows the body shell and the styling cues from it. But, unlike the cladding jobs of the other name-sake crossovers, it seems that the Figo Cross has been thought through. The hexagonal angry mesh grille is complemented by the sculpted bumper which gets a blacked out lower half and a faux bash-plate underneath for the crossover credentials.

It gets bumper mounted fog lamps and a split racing stripe in the centre to add sportiness to it but misses out on the LED DRLs, a must for today’s premium cars in India. You also get roof-rails along with blacked out wing mirrors. We couldn’t get a peek at the rear of the Figo Cross, but it should also get a chunky rear bumper with a blacked-out lower half and a few elements that sets it apart from the Figo hatch.

On the inside, the Figo Cross will now get the new-Ecosport-style floating touchscreen display for the infotainment system. We were already floored by its fluidity when we tested it against the Maruti and Tata displays when we compared the compact SUVs and we certainly expect this touchscreen unit to be the best in the class. The interior also seems to GO the EcoSport way but it still does not get automatic climate control even for the top end.

Under the hood, the Figo Cross will sport the all-new 1.2-litre Dragon series petrol engine which should ideally pump about 90bhp of power if not more. It will also get the standard 1.5-litre diesel with 100bhp on tap and both the engines will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The Figo Cross will sit above the Figo, probably alongside the Aspire, in Ford’s scheme of things and will fight in the premium hatchback segment dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Hyundai Elite i20.
