Ford India, yesterday, unveiled the production version of its upcoming new Figo Aspire compact sedan. The company has also started production of the compact car at its new Sanand Plant in Gujarat, which was also inaugurated yesterday. It will be the first car to be rolled out from this plant, and is expected to be launched in the Indian car market by the mid-2015.

The Ford Figo Aspire will be offered in both petrol and diesel fuel options. While the petrol unit is a new 1.2-litre motor, the oil burner will be the recalibrated 1.5-litre DV5 turbo-diesel unit. The Figo Aspire will also get a 1.5-litre petrol unit, which will be paired to a six-speed twin-clutch automatic gearbox.

The Figo Aspire looks largely identical to the concept unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Motor Show, but it misses out on LED headlamps, tail-lights and fog lamps. The front gets the Fiesta-inspired grille, flanked by sharp swept-back headlamps and strong lines on the bonnet. Inside the cabin, the Figo Aspire has the Fiesta and EcoSport inspired dashboard with cell phone like layout for the switches. It will get the Sync infotainment system with Applink tech, voice recognition and emergency assist.

The top-spec variant is expected to get up to six-airbags (driver & co-driver, curtain & side airbags). ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) is likely to be offered as standard across all variants. The wheel arches have been fitted to 14-inch alloys shod with 175/65-R14 tyres. It will rival against the likes of Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze, Tata Zest and Maruti Swift Dzire.
