On April 15 Ford had written to its dealers asking them not to demonstrate the cars or deliver cars as there was an impending engineering change. Sources have revealed that this issue is related to the Restraint Control Module which controls the mechanisms like the airbags, pre-tensioners and side curtains. And so the sales of the Ford Figo and Figo Aspire compact sedan have been halted.

Ford has previously issued such a recall in 2014 for the C-MAX, Fusion, Escape and Lincoln MKZ in the US for the same issue. In an official statement (issued at that time) it had said that the restraint module could experience a short circuit. If a short circuit occurred, then airbag warning indicator would illuminate and depending on the location of the short circuit, the deployable restraint systems (e.g., airbags, pre-tensioners, side curtains) may not function as intended in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

The short circuit may also affect the function of other systems that use data from the restraints control module, including stability control. In these cases, the corresponding warning indicator lamps would also illuminate.

Ford is currently conducting an investigation for the same and is expected to issue an official statement.
