The Ecosport has been successful for Ford globally and now it is heading to the USA. The Ford EcoSport will be launched in the US with the 110bhp, 1.5-litre petrol engine with an automatic ‘box and the 123bhp, 1.0-litre,EcoBoost engine. Ford might also launch the EcoSport with the 1.5-litre diesel engine.
The Ecosport is a size smaller than the Renault Duster and along with the Mahindra TUV 300 and Quanto is the only other SUV to get small car excise duty benefit in India. The interiors of the Ecosport for the US market will undergo an update as well to compete with the Renault Captur and Mazda CX-3.
The Ecosport facelift for Europe doesn’t have a rear mounted spare wheel anymore, but one headed to North America will get one. The European Ecosport also had additional sound deadening and a new four-inch display for the music system. These interior updates are likely to be passed on to the North American Ecosport too.
In India, the Ecosport was one of the first compact SUVs and was received well initially.It has also been recently updated with daytime running LEDs, automatic headlamps and more power for the diesel engine; it now makes 98bhp compared to the earlier figure of 90bhp.
