As the prototype was heavily camouflaged, its exterior updates weren’t visible but reports claim that the upcoming Ranger will look more distinctive than the European version, to make it an attractive proposition for buyers back home in the U.S. It is believed that the new Ranger will use a modified version of the current T6 platform that underpins the present Euro-spec model.

Under the hood of the new Ranger will be a series of EcoBoost engines with varying capacities, and there’s even talk of a diesel mill making it to the range. To make better use of the power output from these motors, Ford is said to have joined hands with GM to develop a new ten-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, reports claim that Ford will offer the new Ranger with both two and four wheel drive options.

While the research and development of the new Ranger is being carried out by Ford’s Australian arm, the truck will be assembled at their plant in Michigan. Sources add that this vehicle will be introduced next year after the model is unveiled at the 2018 Detroit Motor Show. We shall keep you updated about Ford’s plans for the new Ranger, so stay tuned to CarTrade.
