The Mustang muscle car from American car-maker Ford has been popular across the globe. The brand has recently crossed the 50th Anniversary milestone. The first version of original 1964 - 1/2 Mustang from the American car-maker Ford was launched about fifty years ago. The powerful muscle car dubbed as 'Pony Car' was an instant hit and set the sales charts for Mustang on fire.

Mark Reuss, GM’s executive vice president of global product development, purchasing and supply chain, said, “For five decades, the Camaro and the Mustang have been battling it out in every possible setting. These two cars have been striving to beat each other on the track, on the drag strip and on the streets. That competition is a big part of why both cars are so amazing, and so popular, today.” To mark the special occasion the staff at Ford came up with an innovative idea of launching Ford Mustang into the air inside a weather balloon. Michael Sego, Ford's San Francisco-area sales manager, said, “We wanted to celebrate 50 years of Mustang and the impending arrival of the all-new 2015 Mustang by doing something really special. Mustang has always been about getting behind the wheel and hitting the open road, but we decided to take to the open sky.”

A small model was attached to a high altitude weather balloon using a rod by the staff. The prototype soared about 110,000 feet and stayed there for about an hour before the balloon burst and the car fell back on earth. Seggo added, “More than 9 million Mustangs have been built in the past 50 years, going to virtually every part of the planet. We’re excited to have been able to take our favorite car to new heights by launching it into space.”

Apart from this small prototype, the American car-maker has also decided to mark the special occasion with the launch of a limited edition Mustang. The company has decided to manufacture only about 1,964 cars as a tribute to its production year when the car first went on sale. To relive good old times, Ford shall assemble and launch the 2015 Mustang atop the Empire state building as it was done fifty years ago. The limited edition of the power-packed Mustang muscle car shall be available in any one of the two colors – Blue or White. The car shall sport redesigned windows, headlamps, grill and taillights. Moreover, to give the muscle car a distinctive identity, it shall receive faux gas cap badge on the rear marking its limited edition status. Pricing for the upcoming special edition has not been revealed for now. The production for the car shall begin sometime soon.
