American carmaker Ford has been known across global automobile market for its technological potential. This time around Ford has offered other carmakers including its rivals to access its electric vehicle patents for a fee. The company would be utilizing this amount towards research and development of such vehicles.

Last year California based company Tesla Motors Inc agreed to share its patents with other companies, but that was done at no additional costs. The company is also likely to hire about 200 engineers who would be working on electric vehicles this year. The American carmaker has over 650 electric vehicle patents and about 1,000 pending patents application for electric vehicle technology.
