Fifth generation Land Rover Discovery caught testing

This is the next generation Land Rover Discovery that has been snapped testing with very little camouflage in Germany.

Scheduled to be the fifth-generation Discovery, the pictures unmistakeably expose the softened ‘stepped roof’ which now has a more fluid surfacing. While the windows now look smaller and less boxy, the bonnet has a more nose-down stance unlike the current upright position.

Reports claim that the upcoming Discovery is underpinned by the same bonded and riveted aluminium monocoque that goes into the new Range Rover Sport and Range Rover. Power to the wheels will be taken care of by a new 2.0-litre hybrid Ingenium engine which is coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and an electric motor. This electric motor should be able to displace torque appropriately to control wheel slippage.

Land Rover’s Discovery is rumoured to have a significant enthusiast following, which is why the car maker will be inclined to retain the Discovery’s rugged and voluminous nature. It will continue to sport seven seats and a large flat loading bay.

There’s no confirmation on when the new Discovery could hit the markets abroad as of now. Stay tuned for more on this in the months to come.
