      Fiat Puts on a New Look in India

      Fiat India is making its entrance in India with a complete new look. It shall adopt a top down approach to market its models in India. It shall launch its premium models like Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Cinquecento, etc. in India. Fiat has a good dealership network for sales and service in India co-branded with Tata. It hopes to increase its sales to 45,000 units in 2009 garnering a 3 percent market share.

      Fiat has recently launched its Palio in India. It has witnessed a drop in its sales by 0.2 percent in 2007-08. It aims to re-vamp its image in the minds of Indian customers with its flashy Fiat500 or Cinquecento 2-door model priced at Rs. 15 lakh in India. It shall launch its Linea sometime in October-November and Grand Punto early next year. These two models shall have greater degree of localisation which would mean a competitive pricing their market segment.

      Fiat shall also sell its excess capacity of engines which would include 1300cc multi-jet diesel ones being currently manufactured at the Ranjangaon factory. It currently has a manufacturing capacity of 300,000 units of engines which 1300cc engines are being used by Maruti for its models Dzire and Swift. 1300cc engines are also used by General Motors for its Opel Models. It also manufactures 1200cc and 1400cc engines at its production plant.
