Fiat has readied the long pending replacement of their popular mid-size hatchback, the Punto. Codenamed the Fiat X6H, the new Fiat hatchback will be called the Fiat Argo and will go on sale in Brazil next month.

While the Tipo hatchback had been considered to be a contender to the Punto, the Argo, instead will be the common replacement for the Punto as well as the Palio. Production ready prototypes of the Argo has been spotted in Brazil and the car is based on the same Small Wide platform as the Fiat 500X. Fiat will also build a sedan based on the Argo.

There is a slim chance that Fiat might bring these cars to India to replace the fledgling Punto and the Linea but it is a very long shot nevertheless. Fiat will offer the Argo in three trims – Attractive, Essence and Sporting and three powertrain options – the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, the 1.3-litre naturally aspirated petrol and the 1.8-litre diesel with a five-speed manual or five-speed automated manual gearbox option or a six-speed automatic.
