After last being spotted testing in 2015, sources suggest that the recently shot Ferrari prototype undergoing development tests in Sweden may be that of the Ferrari ‘Dino’.

This test mule carries a number of components and body sheet design from existing cars like the 458 Italia and 488 GTB. Additionally, the photographer who shot these pictures reiterated that they didn’t hear the engine note of a V8 engine, and instead added that it sounded more like a V6. As the Ferrari Dino was always powered by a V6 motor, suspicions have now been raised whether this prototype was indeed that of a Dino in the making (or re-making). Ferrari had hinted way back in 2015 that it was just a matter of time when the car would be re-introduced into the Ferrari fleet.

Let’s talk more about the motor. The ideal V6 contender for this application, that’s been built in-house by Ferrari, is the one that powers the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio which makes 505bhp and 600Nm of torque. It would make perfect business sense for Ferrari to source this engine from Alfa Romeo while throwing in other components from the parts bin of the existing 458 and 488 Italia to keep costs low.

The next thing on your mind is when will we get to see it in flesh? With the minimal amount of camouflage on this test mule, it looks like we may not have to wait till 2018 to see this Ferrari on the road. Expect the Ferrari Dino to take on the likes of the Mercedes-AMG GT, Aston Martin Vantage, McLaren 540C, and Porsche’s own 911.
