The all new Alto 800 from the stables of Maruti Suzuki, which witnessed more than 10,000 bookings even before its official launch, is clearly a hit. Just like Maruti 800 and Maruti Alto, which swept country's auto market within a few months after its launch, Maruti Alto 800 too seems to break all records and rule the Indian roads. Alto 800, which has emerged as the winner has not only reclaimed Maruti's lost glory owing to the violence at its Manesar plant but has also boosted the auto maker's overall domestic sales.

The big question, however, is the secret behind Alto 800 being so popular among the masses. Maruti, this time, has banked upon the same old formula with a new twist. Alto 800, which is sure to cause a big turnaround in Maruti's sales and image, shares company's two most successful models name; however, that is the only similarity that Alto 800 shares with Maruti Alto and Maruti 800.

The all new Alto 800 not only looks fresh and stylish but also possesses all the features that a middle class Indian buyer looks forward to in his or her first car. The car is available in a wide range of colours, namely- frost blue, granite grey, superior white, blazing red, silky silver and torque blue, with an interior colour option of grey and brown. Apart from these, the top variant of Alto 800 also provides driver side air bag option, which is something not all entry level cars possess.

In words of Chief Operating Officer (M&S) of Maruti Suzuki, Mayank Pareek, "The car has 100 new things which Alto doesn't have. It is loaded with features that will surprise any entry level car buyer."

The unique selling proposition (USP) of the all new Alto 800 is undoubtedly its mileage, especially when the fuel prices are soaring in the country. While the petrol variant of Alto 800 offers 22.74 kmpl, its CNG variant delivers a fuel efficiency of 30.46 km/kg.

The all new Alto 800 houses a 0.8 litre, 796cc, 3 cylinder petrol engine, which churns out a power as high as 47 bhp at 6,000 rpm and provides a decent torque delivery of 69 Nm at 3,500 rpm. The petrol powered base variant is available for Rs. 2.44 lacs while the CNG variant starts at Rs. 3.19 lacs. This makes it a strong competitor of Tata Nano and Hyundai EON in the entry level market. With all these features at a very decent price, it certainly won't be wrong to say that Alto 800 comes with a lot of hope for Maruti and a lot of excitement for anyone buying his or her first car.
