Faraday Future has finally taken the wraps of its new electric autonomous SUV – the FF91. The California-based electric car manufacturer had revealed its futuristic SUV at the ongoing Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas.
The new electric SUV has the largest battery size with the densest battery pack in the EV world claims the manufacturer. The LG Chem derived 130 kilowatt-hours battery pack is placed beneath the floor of the car. The electric motors have a combined power out of 1050bhp and torque is rated at 1800Nm. The car will accelerate from zero to 100kmph in 2.39seconds and boasts of an impressive 608 kilometre of range in a single charge.
Based on a newly developed Variable Platform Architecture (VPA), the FF91 measures 5.2-metres in length and has a wheelbase of 3.2-metres. The car rides on distinctively dynamic 22-inch wheels and has an automatic ride height adjustable suspension with a four-wheel steering system. On the inside, the FF91 has a reclining rear seat with up to 60degree tilt. The panoramic sunroof and windows are made of PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) glass.
It also has a facial recognition for the driver to enter with its unique FF-ID, which forms a basis for its connected “ecosystem”. The FF91 is a proper autonomous vehicle with 13 long and short range radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, 10 cameras and a retractable 3D LiDar sensor on the bonnet. These are all connected to a powerful computer to give the FF91 the autonomous credentials.
Faraday Future has said the FF91 will go into production in 2018. No details of the pricing have been released by the manufacturer but the first FF91 will be auctioned in March 2017. The first 300 units can be upgraded to Alliance Edition a part of its sales will proceed as a donation to an environment protection fund which will be named at a later date.
