With the launch of Xylo, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) may solidify the belief that it is following a new design theme that was first seen in the XUV 500. The exteriors of the car will receive the maximum number of modifications. Industry experts and auto enthusiasts believe that the changes in new Xylo will reflect the design approach that M&M will follow in coming times.

Over the years, M&M has been changing the landscape of the Utility Vehicle (UV) segment by introducing new designs that blow away the competition, from the Scorpio to the XUV 500. The only blemish in its track record has been the original Xylo, which received criticism for its looks from all quarters, whereas the comfort factor and performance were widely praised. So, the newest edition would, quite obviously, follow its latest design theme without losing touch with the look of the original model.

The 2012 Mahindra Xylo's grille is similar to the one used in the manufacturer's wildly popular Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), XUV 500. Other cosmetic changes in the front fascia of the car include nudge guards, Mahindra emblem placed on the bonnet instead of the grille and fresh look has been given to the headlamps. The sides have received new body mouldings, all-black pillars and black lining on wheel arches, while the rear has a new tail lamp cluster. Overall, it is sportier and more aggressive and streamlined as compared to the previous edition of the Xylo. The 2012 Mahindra Xylo variants will be D2, D4, E4, E8 and E9, where the D-series will be serving the commercial purposes.

This new look of the Xylo seems to be in line with the exterior appearance of XUV 500, which featured a prominent and aggressive grille that attracted all auto aficionados. Mahindra's new flagship model is best known for its sporty look, which is defined by strong body lines and the Cheetah-inspired design theme. Going by the spy shots of the new edition of its MPV, the company has incorporated the same theme in it without leaving out the curves of the previous Xylo so that the two cars can easily be associated with each other. The pricing bit of the Mahindra Xylo seems to have been revised too

      Mahindra Xylo E8 - Rs 10.25 lakh

Mahindra Xylo D8 ABS Airbags - Rs 9.47 lakh

Mahindra Xylo D8 ABS - Rs 9.10 lakh

Mahindra Xylo D4 ABS - Rs 8.34 lakh

      Mahindra Xylo D4 - Rs 7.77 lakh

      Mahindra Xylo D2 - Rs 7.37 lakh

The upcoming Xylo features a 2.5 L, 3 cylinder mEagle diesel motor that renders 70 bhp of maximum power and 170 Nm of highest torque. Its interiors remain largely unchanged, though wooden inserts, an updated steering wheel and dual tone colour scheme can be expected. It will be a 5+2 seater, with 2 small seats in the third row exclusively for children and spare tyre present on the fifth door. Speculation is rife that the facelifted Xylo will have four-wheel-drive mechanism, giving it the distinction of being the only 4X4 MPV in India. Fuel efficiency of the 2012 versions are 13 kmpl for E4 and E8 variants and 14.02kmpl for the E9 version.
