The MPV segment has been witnessing a couple of entrants, which have fairly boosted the competition by a significant margin. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which had been a key player in this segment, was facing a strong rivalry from all quarters. Honda Mobilio has come up as a strong competitor, while other hatchbacks, sedans as well as SUVs are also having an impact on the sales prospects of this car. Now, it has been found out that Maruti is working on a facelift version of the Ertiga and is expected to be launched in 2015. The Ertiga as initially launched in the nation in the month of April in 2012.

The spy shots, which have been received, show some positive changes on the exterior. A two-slat chrome grille with a new front bumper with an updated air-dam and a fog-lamp enclosure, a chrome slat across the rear hatch, a new rear bumper as well as upgraded interiors have been spotted. Maruti is also expected to add a couple of new equipment to keep the model up-to-date, which includes a start-stop button an intelligent entry-and-go system and electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs.

Mechanistically, the engines have been carried over from the respective Ertiga models; however, these will be tuned for a better efficiency. The model will be powered by a 1.4 litre petrol mill as well as a 1.3 litre turbo diesel mill, which are mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Dual-fuel variants are available on Ertiga in some cities, whereas at other places, CNG is available.

Maruti launched the Ertiga in the MPV segment after the fans already had Tavera from Chevrolet, Toyota’s highly popular model Innova and Mahindra Xylo. Yet Ertiga enjoyed a good sales period till the end of 2012 with over 7000 units sold in a month. However, the 7-seater market was open to new competition and Ertiga started taking a back seat soon after. There has been a general slowdown in the market as well, paving the way for some slump for the car. The company will be looking forward to bring the erstwhile glory of Ertiga riding on the shoulders of this facelift version.
