      Drop in Sales of Tata Passenger Vehicles

      The month of July registered a slowdown in the over-all automobile sector in India. Tata Motors, which is India's largest automobile company, reported a fall in the sales of Tata passenger vehicles, including Tata Winger. The cumulative sales of Tata passenger vehicles were 82,300 units, which has dropped by 16% as compared to 97,974 units, as on July last year. Being a part of the passenger transportation segment Tata Winger has also been effected by the drop in sales. It shows sale of 17,192 units for the month of July 2011, which has dropped by 38% over July last year.

      The passenger vehicle business reported a total sale of 18,294 units, which included 17,192 Tata and 1102 Fiat models, in the domestic market in July 2011. This sales figure is lower by 39% as compared to 30,166 units, as on July last year. For the fiscal, the cumulative sales and distribution offtake of passenger vehicles are 89,105 units, including 82,300 Tata and 6,805 Fiat, against 106,375 units. The number of sales is lower by 16% in comparison to last year.

      Tata Motors is the largest manufacturer of heavy, commercial, luxury and passenger vehicles. The company aimed to cater to the growing need of the urban passenger transportation successfully and for this, it launched Tata Winger in 2007.

The existing Tata Winger was also given a facelift after it was launched. Tata Winger Platinum was launched with an intention to increase the existing seating capacity and efficiency of the previous model. Designed to provide an enhanced on-road experience, the Winger Platinum is a luxurious 7 seater car. Furthermore, Tata offers the Winger Platinum in two exterior colours, namely Pearl White and Cycus Grey.

      According to the company, Tata Winger Platinum has been specifically designed to fulfil the needs of passengers who look for carriers, but have to choose utility vehicles because of the absence of requisite vehicle. The car model has adjustable head rests, extra leg room, soft wide adjustable armrests and wide luggage space. Moreover, Tata Motors offers a 1.5 lacs km or 18-month warranty on the Winger.

      Tata Winger is broadly categorised in three variants, which is divided according to its user application. The various vehicle applications include staff transportation, tourist vehicle, hotel transfers, school van, ambulance and cargo. Tata Motors is working on another user specific category of Tata Winger, which is the special purpose vehicle.

      The present Tata Winger is powered by a 1948 cc diesel engine that produces 90 hp at 4300 rpm of peak power and 190 Nm at 2000-3000 rpm of peak torque. Thereby, the engine’s performance is adequate for city traffic and highway trips. The various attributes of the urban passenger vehicle, Tata Winger, has made it popular among Indian customers. Besides, Tata Motors is positive that the sales will increase in the coming months and more customers would choose the spacious and efficient Tata Winger.
