      Skoda Auto completes 7 successful years in India and showcases the new Skoda Superb & Fabia Sport Line at the Performance Show 2008

      Mumbai, 13th November, 2008: - High Level of Quality Consciousness – it’s the new Skoda Superb. Škoda India, a fully owned subsidiary of Škoda Auto a.s. Czech Republic (Volkswagen Group), one of the fastest growing car manufacturers in Europe, showcased its proposed offering for the Indian market today. The all new “Skoda Superb” was unveiled by Mr. Thomas Kuehl, Member, Board Member, Sales & Marketing ŠkodaIndia, and Mr. Martin Lauer, Head, Corporate Communications, Skoda Auto at the Performance Show 2008 held in Mumbai. The range of successful models which included Fabia Sport Line and Skoda Laura were also displayed.

      The new Superb is the flagship of Skoda. The creation of its design is distinctive, individualistic and irreplaceable. Furthermore, based upon the company’s motto “Simply clever”, many technical solutions in the design have been included. The model complements with the value added features that Indian customers have come to associate with i.e. commitment to quality, luxury and advanced technology.

      Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Thomas Kuehl, Board Member, Sales & Marketing, Škoda India said, “Superb was recently launched in all European markets and has received great response. In India, the new Superb will be a benchmark in its class in terms of design, safety, and value. Skoda sales in India have grown by 54% over Jan-Oct 2007 due to the phenomenal success of our new entrant, the Fabia and we expect grander success with the new Superb. The official market launch of the new Superb will be in February 2009”

      The car has recently bagged two prestigious awards. One of them is the 2008 Golden Steering Wheel (Goldenes Lenkrad) organised by the German-based magazine Bild am Sonntag and the other award received recently is the Großen Österreichischen Automobil-Preis organised by ARBÖ every year, where Experts, VIPs and thousands of readers selected the best and most popular vehicles of 2008 from altogether 36 candidates this year.

      Main Features of the New Superb:

      1) The Engine - All of new Superbs engine operate with direct fuel injection and excel as a result of their low fuel consumption and the direct and useful advantage of Direct Injection is low revolutions. With acceleration of 0-100 km/h in 6.5 secs, the 3.6 FSI V6 Superb can attain a top speed of 250 km/h.

      2) The Twin Door Concept - The unique, patented "twin door" variable boot opening offers an extremely practical, functional and well thought out solution. The new Superb's tailgate places practically no limits on what can be transported and can accommodate 1670 litres of luggage when folded forward. Also, it has a electrically assisted automatic closing of the bootlid.

      3) Safety - There are upto eight airbags on board. Two front and side airbags as well as head airbags at the front and back provide all-round protection. The side -airbags in the rear are completely a new feature. ESP, TPM, Hill Hold and Park Distance Control – are the other highest level of Active Safety.

      4) Intelligent lighting: AFS (Adaptive Front Light System) a first in the VW group and first in India, improves visibility, adapting to the driving conditions and enabling the driver to recognise obstacles in the road sooner and react quicker. AFS is combined with Bi-xenon headlights and front fog lamps with corner lights in the new Skoda Superb.

      5) Design & Looks - The appearance of the new Superb is striking in its form. The contoured lines of the bonnet, the lines of the roof, chrome trim around the windows are all an eye-catching feature in the new Superb.

      6) Interior - The interiors, with its finely tuned mix of materials and excellent workmanship, satisfies the needs of even the most demanding customer. In certain trim levels, the steering wheel includes multi – function buttons for the operation of the radio unit, MFA and a mobile phone.The design cue is reflected in the look of the central console. It includes the new Columbus navigation system with advanced, operator friendly, touch screen technology - the first time in India and a 30 GB hard disk for rapid data access and also the dual zone climate control system.

      7) Automatic 7-speed DSG is the first in India - The petrol engine car in the new Superb with 1.8TSI is also the first in India. It provides a peak torque of 250Nm in the range from 1500/rpm to 4200/rpm and propels the front-wheel driven Superb to a top speed of 220 km/h. Acceleration is quick, needing only 8.6 seconds from 0-100km.

      The all new Superb, the flagship of Skoda Auto India will be positioned as a benchmark in the premium large sedan segment. The pricing is yet not finalised, but will be accordingly to the positioning and the equipment levels. The engines to be introduced in India will be – 1.8 TSI, 3.6 V6 FSI (petrol version) and 2.0 TDI (diesel version). The new Superb is set to launch in India in February 2009.
